RCFEE has successfully acquired four new projects for the period 2006-2010. The grants are from MARD with main research topics on: sustaintable use of forest land, forest valuation, and forest physioecological.
Forest valuation for environmental services in Northern VietnamPrincipal investigator: MSc. Vu Tan Phuong Research is funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and being implemented by RCFEE for the period of 2004 – 2006. The objective of the research is to evaluate the values of the major forest types in the Northern part of Vietnam with the focus on environmental services, i.e. soil erosion control, water regulation for flood control, carbon sequestration and soil fertility improvement. The outputs will be (i) values of the selected forest types and (ii) Guidelines on economic valuation of the forests. Valuing forests in VietnamPrincipal investigator: MSc. Vu Tan Phuong This research is also funded by MARD aiming at defining total economic value of the forests and developing principles, methods and guidelines for forest valuation as the basic for formulation of forest valuation decree noted in newly revised forest protection and development law. The research will cover a wide range of forest types across the country and be implemented within 2 years, from 2006 to 2007. Land classification for forests establishment of major tree species in the key ecological regions of VietnamPrincipal investigator: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Dinh Que This is a priority research concerned by MARD and to be implemented from 2006 to 2008. The research will look into the linkage between site conditions and productivity of plantations to define basic for land classification for planting forests. The research out puts will be the basic for establishing commercial plantations based on considerations of site conditions, silvicultural measures and investment. Research on physioecological characteristics of some native broad leaf tree species as basic for establishing mixture plantationsPrincipal investigator: MSc. Le Quoc Huy The research focuses on identifying the major physioecological characters of some native species. The native species include De do (Lithocarpus ducampii), Khao vang (Machilus ichangensis), Gioi xanh (Michelia mediosris). Some physioecological characters to be considered are water and nutrients demand at nursery period, light regimes. The research is planned to implement in 4 years, from 2006 to 2009. |
