Tailor-Made Course Project of Strengthening capacity in the framework of clean development mechanis
The Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) has approved the Training Proposal submitted by the Research Center for Forest Ecology and Environment (RCFEE) of Forest Science Institute of Vietnam (FSIV) for a Tailor-Made Course of “Strengthening capacity in the framework of clean development mechanisms”.

The Training is funded by the Netherlands Government with a total Grant of 155,500 Euro. The International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands was sellected by Tender Evaluation Committee (TEC) to deliver the Training Course to the RCFEE. The Opening Ceremony of the Tailor-Made Training Course was held on 11 July, 2006 at the Forestry University of Vietnam (FUV), Xuan Mai, Hatay with the presences of Leaders & Representatives of relevant Institutions/Agencies of FSIV, ITC, Netherlands Embassy, SNV Vietnam, FUV, RCFEE. The duration of the Course will be 14 weeks, of which 12 weeks in Vietnam and 2 weeks in China & Thailand and the course will last by mid-May, 2007. 15 participants coming from five agencies i.e RCFEE, FSIV, Forest Science Sub- Institute in the south Vietnam and FUV will be participated in the training.

The Project is aiming at capacity development on 3 following major components: (i) CDM Issues: project identification, formulation, and monitoring, (ii) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in the Frame Work of CDM in Vietnam, criteria and methodologies to meet environmental laws of Vietnam, and (iii) GIS will be used as applicable tools and in such a simple way to conduct effectively all activities of CDM project and EIA.

The training program will provide trainees with modern techniques of data collection, spatial data analysis, and modelling and scenario development for environmental assessments. They will acquire skills and techniques to obtain frequent and timely information about the potential of land units in relation to land use options and impacts of AR-CDM projects. They will also become familiar with tools and techniques to carry out independent research with regard to AR-CDM, environmental assessments, scenario development and impact assessments. After completion of the training they will be able to provide and use relevant, timely and up-to date information to support development and screening of AR-CDM projects.
