Formulation of Legal Documents on Forest Pricing

Hanoi, 15 March 2008

RCFEE has been asked by Legislation Department of MARD to be a counterpart and specialised organization to develop and finalize Decree and Circular on Principles and methods for determination of forest prices. To date the Decree is in place and the Circular is being tested. The testing is carried out in Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc and Ba Vi for three kinds of forests: production, protection and special use forests. The circular is planned to be promulgated by third quater this year.
 
For the convenient and effective use of these legal documents by the provinces, with the support of GTZ, RCFEE will continue its technical support to develop software on forest pricing. This software will be expected to be ready for use next year.


Carbon estimation models for plantations forest

Within the frame work of the ministerial research project titled "Forest pricing", RCFEE has completed allometric equations for carbon estimation for 5 major tree species which are being planted widely in Vietnam. Those species are Acacia mangium, A. auriculiformis; A. hybrid; Pinus massoniana and P. merkusii. These equations are developed to estimate carbon stock in biomass of plantations based on diameter at breast height (DBH).

Workshop on sustainable mangrove management

The Mangrove Sub-component Vietnam, one of six components of the project "Reserving environmental degradation trends in the south China sea and gulf of Thailand period 2002 - 2008", is going to hold a 2 days workshop on sustainable mangrove management in October 2007.

AR-CDM training course graduation and workshop

05 June 2007. Following the first phase of training course on "Strengthening capacity in the framework of clean development mechanis", the 2nd phase of the course was sucessfully completed on 04 June 2007.

The graduation ceremony and final workshop was held at Sofitel Plaza, Hanoi, with the key note presentation by Prof. Do Dinh Sam from FSIV, and Dr. Louise van Leeuwen from ITC. Several guest speakers from relevance organizations such as SNV, Green Energy, and Golden Forest also gave talks and shared their experiences on development of AR CDM projects in Vietnam.

Certificates were handled over to the participants by Prof. Nguyen Hoang Nghia, General Director of FSIV

Tailor-Made Course Project of Strengthening capacity in the framework of clean development mechanis
The Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) has approved the Training Proposal submitted by the Research Center for Forest Ecology and Environment (RCFEE) of Forest Science Institute of Vietnam (FSIV) for a Tailor-Made Course of “Strengthening capacity in the framework of clean development mechanisms”.
